One year is an awful short time to convert an ethnically divided country held together by brutal central government force since its inception, into a western style liberal democracy. I sure hope it can be done, cause it will solve a lot of long term problems. If it succeeds, Bush will be regarded as one of the greatest presidents. But I am not holding my breath.


No way it's going to be done in a year. But since the majority of Iraqis do not sympathize with the Ba'athists and jihadis, our job is to set up the Iraqi army and police to be dealing with the bulk of the security problems - that way, next year won't cost us as much as this one.
