What he is advocating, is that the Muslim world take, toward Israel, the same stance China has toward Taiwan

So...do the Chinese claim that the Taiwanese rule the world by proxy, or that there is an on-going war between the Chinese and the Taiwanese?

Answer: of course not. The Chinese just want to regain control of what they regard as a rebel province.

So, it's true, he wants the end of Israel

And what, pray, does he want to happen to the 5 million Israeli Jews who are "ruling the world by proxy"?

And, yes, it's easy to miss the core pragmatism and conciliation of his message, because of his inflammatory rhetoric

There is no core pragmatism. That is because he starts with a wrong premise - by agreeing that Muslims are at war with the world that has attacked and oppressed them. No matter how 'moderate' he sounds to you - and believe me, a message encouraging the elimination of Israel does not sound moderate to me - his message is still one of reacting to imaginary wrongs, mis-diagnosing real problems, and lashing out in frustration because all the 'cures' only make the disease worse.
