As long as they thought the US was stepping into another Viet Nam, their best strategy lay in sniping from the sidelines, allowing the US to flounder, digging itself in deeper, until at last we would have to crawl to the UN for help. Where in the world did they ever get these ideas? Why would they think that America would flounder.......that Americans didn't have the will to succeed? Especially after being so horrendously attacked on 9/11. Underestimating our resolve after that most hurtful day was their first mistake, misunderstanding our mood their second. Again, I ask.........who could have put such silly notions in their heads? M
