Pete,

> You forgot the AMD 81xx based platforms which have been around the longest and are still good for AFX.

Well, sure-- I didn't really forget them, I just don't expect them to be one of the "major" platforms. AMD doesn't really like being in the chipset business, after all.

> You forgot about Gentoo AMD64 Linux distribution and the upcoming nVidea 250 Pro.

Well, yes, there are 27 other Linux distros I could have mentioned, but the big ones are Suse & RedHat. Unless you mean that the Gentoo one is actually advanced in terms of Athlon64/64FX platform support, and not another "server" distro designed for Opteron, with little support for sound & graphics.

I'm sure I "forgot" a lot of products that are yet to be launched.

My point wasn't to post an exhaustive list of AMD64 platforms, nor linux distributions. I was observing that in the coming week or so we can expect a bunch of good software from the mainstream Linux folks, for the vast majority of Athlon64 platforms out there.

Doug

p.s. Gentoo for AMD64 looks to be, at best, in what you might call "beta" shape:
