Globalization has been present and pervasive for my entire career. And for much of the time that I have been in the workforce, the US had no competitive edge whatsoever. I actually think from a productivity standpoint US workers are more competitive now than say, 5 years ago. Nonetheless, there was not another recession barring the great depression where this jobs exodus happened, of more accurately, where other positions were not created to pick up the slack.

BTW I believe the white collar unemployment certainly in CA is over 10%.

But anyway, irrespective of that, lets assume that "americans need to realize..." etc. The question is, how does government handle it. Should they spend more or less? If Bush and company are reading from your playbook they sure don't act like it.
