You don't doubt though that the economy would benefit from the efficiencies gained by the Government relinquishing some if its share of GDP do you?

In principle I wouldn't doubt it, though in practice the efficiencies and the gains will be determined largely by what is relinquished and how it is relinquished, and on whether the relinquishment is matched by appropriate reductions in spending. The positive effect of reduced taxation can be largely offset by the negative effects of massive deficits.
