How long do you think that is going to take? I think we're talking about a time period a lot longer than 8 years. Even if every Muslim nation used Malaysia as a model (development, peace with neighbors), it'd take a few generations. The functional equivalent of forever.

Yes, he is only proposing this truce, as a temporary measure, out of recognition of Islam's current economic/technological weakness. But it will take so long to fix that weakness, maybe everyone will have forgotten by then, why their great-great-grandfathers did targetted assassinations and suicide bombings to each other.
