I have read a couple of Autobiographies by Seal Types about their Vietnam experience in the Delta. They all say the worst Intel was what they got from above. The only thing that worked was what they developed themselves. I think that attitude is held by all "Op" types.

I keep combining various groupings of Itel and coming up with problems. If you split off Domestic Intel from the FBI, you lose a lot of internal info. And so on and so on.

The basic problem is to get small or large groups to pass all info they get to others. And to get others to accept and use it. It seems to be against human nature to do it.

The best example of this I have read is when we lost the submarine battle off of our East Coast in '42. It cost us much more than Pearl did. They solved the problem finally by going to a central clearing house and convoying. Exactly what the British had wanted us to do. And the British initially resisted the same plan.

An aside on that. We have all read about how the Brits were reading the German U-Boat code. What is not as well known is that the Germans were reading the British Convoy codes. The Brits were smug also and wouldn't change them.
