Indeed. Lotsa bad stuff happens in the world. From what I know about Utah style polygamy, it's not pretty. But there are other potential faces of polygamy. And there are negative side effects of other practices that we don't outlaw. Lots of husbands beat their wives, but we don't ban traditional marriages. People die in car wrecks all the time but we don't ban cars.

If the situation you mention is the problem, then we have ways of addressing the problem directly. We can establish and have established minimum ages for marriage and we can add additional hurdles for young brides just as we have laws to improve automobile safety. There are alternatives short of outlawing cars.

That would be a clear violation of the individual's rights and should be completely illegal. Forcing someone into marriage before adulthood or without informed consent is wrong. Whether the marriage in question is polygamous or monogamous is totally irrelevant.
