we had someone posting on si a year or two ago from germany.. he left to work in Dublin Ireland as a programmer or system guy.. He said young folks in Germany cannot afford cars, apartments etc because so much of their income goes to taxes... He was so happy with a flat and car in Dublin.. and I thought Dublin was very expensive. so his net pay must be much more than it would have been in Germany.. I wonder if the German social program is driving out their young talents.

Check US' curves, Mike. Looks like your prediction of baby boomers' boom & bust down the road is greatly exaggerated;)

Re Germany: simple, painful, straightforward solutions:
a) longer working period
b) everybody save ~4% of gross pay - dont count on ma state
c) everybody hold breath for 20 years...

btw, can be Im repeating other posters - been away yesterday.
