I've heard worse rants at regional district zoning meetings here in BC ....

Sure, but do the speakers of those meetings get worldwide coverage? Do they influence political actors and the masses like Mahathir does?

Someone who calls for improvements in Islamic science and technology so that Islam can deal with Jews more efficiently is reminiscent of a short little German guy with a funny mustache who was also thought to be merely a ranter.

I agree that the speech by the guy from Bosnia was a lot more moderate.

You have to consider also, that setting up on muslim lands a state 'as jewish as England is english' is inherently threatening to muslim identity.

Ah, the "my neighbor has cooties so let's kill him" argument. Points out the fragility of Muslim identity.

Mahathir's speech was also interesting because of its emphasis on Muslim oppression and humiliation and the need to respond militarily against it, on the one hand, and the incredible (yet squandered) wealth of the oil-producers on the other. The humiliation seems mostly self-inflicted, to me.

Muslim victimology reminds me of the West's Cult of Therapy. No recognition in either of the role of the "victim" in the alleged oppression and humiliation. Always looking for a scapegoat, whether it is the Jews, the West, parents, "the culture", lack of self-esteem, and a host of others that deflect the focus from where it should be.

My 7 year-old knows more about individual responsibility than Mahathir does.
