I think that the original quote regarding the northeast was referring to Hohhot and other distant locales. The first case for Beijing seemed to be a patient who had been infected in Guangzhou, but came to Beijing for better care. However, like Hong Kong, the infections in Beijing probably did have a number of independent origins. This is not a surprise. For Hong Kong, the Metropole Hotel was the most famous, because it seeded cases to Hanoi, Singapore, and Toronto via air travelers. The flight CA-112 brought several cases to Beijing, but it is likely that other cases from Guangdong Province seeded Beijing also.
