Following is from my previously posted note: I am extremely grateful for being an American, especially because I am a Jewish American. In America anyone of any race, culture, nationality, religion, or color is free to follow their dreams. Being a member of a minority, I value my citizenship quite a bit. I have never missed voting in an election. I consider it a sin not to vote. But..... if I am such a loyal, grateful American, why then am I also a Zionist? Somewhat out of guilt. I only really learned about the Holocaust as a teenager. I found out that, just by the luck of my grandparents being able to come to America, I lived, and most of those that were left behind perished. Those that survived tried to flee to the dream of being safe in Palestine. Other Jews were basically chased out of the Arab countries and into Palestine "Israel", where they had to fight or be destroyed. The Jewish families who fled from the Arab countries were forced out of the homes that their families had owned for hundreds of years. They lost all of their possessions but were fortunate to escape with their lives. The Arabs then waged five wars against the Jewish families of Israel. If Israel had lost only one of the five wars, I can't imagine what would have happened to the Jewish population. How can a Jew, like me, who has experienced the great gift of freedom, protection and acceptance, all my life, by this wonderful country, not support the dreams and hopes of other Jews. Most Israeli Jews lost many members of their more immediate family in the Holocaust or lost members of their family because of thousands of terrorist attacks over the past 60 years. I get called some very ugly, vile names for professing my Zionism. That is nothing compared to having one's children blown up in a bus going to school. Imagine being a Jewish mother in Israel, sending your kid to school in the morning, and then filled with anxiety and fear that you will never see your child again.
