Very interesting article. Though I doubt Kellaris coined the term. About 20 years ago I had a conversation about this phenomenon with a German friend who told me that the German word for those tunes was "earworm".
My personal worse earworm has always been "Sugar, Sugar". Fortunately another friend had suggested a cure for it that's worked for me. Just hum the opening bars to "Aqualung". It drives the earworm out without replacing it.
