The defense of individual rights is often unpopular, which is why it is often necessary to do it by judicial fiat. I don't see any fundamental laws being ripped up here, simply recognition of a long-existing reality. If two guys or two girls want to get married and do, the net effect on my marriage and my family is exactly zero. These institutions are not defined by laws or policies, they are defined by the beliefs and attitudes of the individuals in question. I see no reason to pretend that this is not the case.
