West Wing is one of those attempts at showing the human and noble qualities that the average (young) American hopes is in the hearts of the highest politicians.

The truth is too hard for most Americans to take.

It's understandable give the Niagra of hostility towards Clinton 7x24 in his latter years in office. If you want to see an even greater level of sentiment, unearned IMO, watch the made-for-tv program on Junior Bush, it's an amazing series of dream-like lies from beginning to end.

Reagan OTOH had a Niagra of sentimentality, so partisans expect a similarly reversed treatment. As Reagan's official biographer Morris says in your article that it at best does "... redress or counteract the sentimentalities that are being perpetrated all of the time in his name by his fanatical followers."

Reagan isn't long for this world, there are honorific programs and titles even now being planned by happy military planners for carriers, airports buildings, and budgets. Expect a Niagra of sentiment to be spun with Junior Bush's happy face in the middle of it all, pretending he had something to do with it. Certainly Bush Senior is getting ready for prime-time, evidenced by last night's interview.
