METALEX JOINT VENTURE DISCOVERS NEW KIMBERLITE
During wide-spaced grid drilling with an auger-core rig, the Metalex/Arctic
Star joint venture intersected kimberlite at a depth of seven metres
carrying through to the end of the 12-metre-deep hole. A hand-panned
concentrate of weathered kimberlite from the vertical hole contained
kimberlite indicator minerals (abundant picroilmenite as well as
subordinate chromite, olivine and chrome diopside). A 35-kilogram (kg)
sample of weathered kimberlite was recovered and is being shipped to the
C.F. Mineral Research Ltd. laboratory for diamond and diamond indicator
mineral analysis.
To date, the auger-core drill has been used to complete about 200 vertical
holes on grid lines positioned to discover the source of five traits of
abundant indicator minerals. These indicator minerals possess exceptional
diamond inclusion compositions typically present in kimberlites with
substantial diamond grades.
The foregoing intersection is most encouraging, for it suggests that other
kimberlites undetected by airborne magnetics could be present on the
company's joint venture claims. A geophysical crew is completing
orientation testwork on the newly discovered kimberlite in order to
establish whether or not geophysical methods, other than airborne
magnetics, may be used to assist the auger-core program aimed at
discovering the source of the exceptional diamond inclusion mineral trails.
