Has he *ever* even been to Iraq?

A fair question and one that might well be asked of every recent US visitor to Iraq.

Articles appearing in the mainstream press this past week describe:

1) Soldiers hand-picked for visits by high-ranking officials. (Other soldiers told to zip it.) These appearances are called dog and pony shows by the insiders, who recognize the artificiality of it all.

2) Heavily-guarded, very brief visits to Baghdad, which still does not have commercial air service, due to the dangers of Stinger-style missiles.

3) Diplomatic delegations that were flown back and forth between Baghdad and Kuwait, so as not to have to risk nightfall in the Sunni Triangle.

4) A delegation of Democrats, who were informed that no aircraft were available to take them to Baghdad from Kuwait, to see first-hand the state of things.

We can read opinions from people who have been there all we want, but the real truth seems to be revealed by the accounts of our everyday actions.
