Sorry if you didn't understand everything, but you did get my point. Dollar volume has dropped significantly. I misread your post. You were saying that short interest makes up a much larger percent of a smaller float, giving strength to a market fueled by monetary expansion. I thought you were trying to say that more money is changing hands in the market. Clearly, investor interest is way down. Perhaps that is a contrary indicator also giving strength to the market.

what is this figure exactly- the dollar amount of both buys and sells for the year?

Where do you find this information? I am trying to find the total capitalization in the naz in 2000 vs. today. I can't find it anywhere. Your point of total dollar volume also makes the same point I would make with capitalization... 6 billion vs. 20 billion at peak so around 70% down is about right.
