I really think you've got it backwards. If Intel is cornered into shipping a clone of AMD's chip, it will be headline news in places that usually don't notice things that are so technical. The Wall Street Journal, Barron's, etc. will have plenty of stories about how another once mighty company has fallen and is just a follower. Wang, Burroughs, and now Intel...

You might also note that AMD's DDR was looked upon with some suspicion by corporate types until Intel started shipping DDR - at which point AMD's mature DDR designs were never again questioned.
