Dan, the Firingsquad.com workstation review showed huge performance hits when the P4 system had 4 DIMMs instead of 2. Much worse than the degradation on Athlon 64 systems and no degradation on Opteron systems.

Dan,

Looking at the real life app performance drop when 4 DIMMs are used with P4 (huge), virtually no drop in Sandra is very curious, unless all of the penalty is entirely on the latency side, with Intel chipset setting extremely conservative memory settings. Hmmm... I wonder if Intel just overrides the user selected memory timing, and sets its own.
