You might be interested to hear that the verb "to mug" has not yet been invented in the Turkish language. It happens, pretty much exclusively in the largest city of the country, Istanbul, but not frequently enough to have merited its own word, it seems. Even in Istanbul, it crime is not as frequent as one might expect in a tightly packed city of 12 million people, most of whom have immigrated to the city rather than were born there and live in poverty. I would walk alone on its streets at 3-4AM, take taxis alone, etc. Things I would hesitate to do in New York, for example.
