Ted, I'm sorry about your roommate, but it didn't surprise me to see him disappointed, considering he thought he knew when the rapture would occur.

You could look at religion as the root of many of history's tragedies, but you could also look at it as the root of people's hope and inspiration. If religion makes you uncomfortable, just remember what the lack thereof is capable of as well: the worst atrocities of the 20th century.


Ten, honestly, I do find that religion in its purest form is very uplifting. Some of the videos we have seen on Islam and Mohammad remind me of that sense of spirituality and desire for goodness. However, its the sometimes interpretation of the Bible or the Torah or the Koran that leads people to repress others or worse to murder others all in the name of God.......that's what I find offensive.

On a lesser level, the roommate I was discussing was a real prig sometimes........brandishing his religion like a weapon. He was the classic example of the person with sin so quick to cast the first stone. That stuff makes me very tired.
