Good point. But for once, getting to the next process node doesn't seem to be a live or die issue for AMD - while it's critical for Intel.

A lot has been made about the very large relative cell size of the K8 L2 cache.

There were rumors that part of the IP deal with IBM was that AMD was licensing IBM's much smaller (also SOI) cache cell technology. We'll have to see if there's any truth to that (and we may never know).
