My understandings are anecdotal, as well.

My larger point is that it's a mistake to assume that people are doing what their religion tells them to do.

For example, more than 90% of American Catholic women will use prohibited birth control in their lifetimes, and about 75% do so at any given time. So it's a mistake to think that Catholic women don't use birth control because the Church prohibits it.
