Kerry voted for war to force compliance to inspectors. Powell and Bush had promised him they would go with the UN and not rush before they had a post-war plan and a broad coalition. Kerry voted reluctantly but on those terms. He warned them at that time that if they did not do as they promised he would hold them accountable. He is. There was nothing wrong with voting for war as a last resort, but Bush lied to everyone and made it his first resort.

All national polls still show the public backing taking out Saddam in general. It's just a question of how it was done that bothers people. Dean had no such difficult choice to make. Dean is not even qualified to wage or threaten a war. He has zero experience. Kerry is a top expert in these matters.
