I do not know the pattern of gun ownership before the war. I do not believe that guns were nearly as plentiful as they are currently. I do not believe that we know enough about attempts on Saddam's life, or his security arrangements, or the prevalence of arms in the country prior to the war, to make any useful speculations on his support among the populace based on alleged failure to shoot at him.
