Your metaphor substituted lifeboat, a specific resource, for Chris's general "resources."

That question addresses an entirely different issue.

Doesn't sound different to me. How would you apportion space in the metaphorical lifeboat if not by denying access to the thirteenth man? It may not address the point about perspective you were trying to make with the metaphor, but the question is on topic.
