The old ruling parties were corrupt, incompetent, undemocratic, this is true ... venezolanos can't go backwards, that would be disastrous .... there is apparently growing sentiment for a 'Ni-Ni' position, 'neither-nor', neither Chávez nor the oligarchy that preceded him, trouble is the ni-nis have no leadership or structure, so far it's just a general feeling .... and everybody is tired of the struggle, people on both sides, they say none of the demonstrations get the same attendance or drama as they did a few months ago, the news flow keeps up but it is war of words, largely

And in the 1973 Chile style, no less .... probably not true, i sure hope it's not true ..... this is no place for the US to be sticking its nose in, save for a Jimmy Carter visit or three .... i read elsewhere that electoral officials from Toronto are going to oversee V's electoral process, that's a good thing, there should be more contact intra-Americas like that ..... but politics is an absurd and often dirty business, no matter where, we've got two parties merging here and you'd be amazed at some of the things you hear said .... it ain't pretty
