Buddy,

Re: Looks like it was a crusade they were all hyped-up on.

I believe that they continue to be hyped up on their crusade. Iraq was merely the second act of what will be a permanent war on Islam. Syria appears to be the next target.

What we've seen so far is the deliberate provocation of Syria to respond to an assault on its territory (and kidnapping of border guards) first by U.S. Special Forces Task Force 20 at the Iraq-Syria border shortly after the cessation of major hostilities inside Iraq, and now the recent Israeli air raids on sovereign Syrian territory. The U.S. and Israel are most likely jointly planning on instigating a response from the Syrians which can be used as the pretext for a major offensive against the Baathist regime in Damascus. Syria, to its credit, has stated that it won't be forced into a war by the deliberately provocative and illegal actions of the Bush and Sharon regimes. I fully expect the U.S. and the Israeli governments to continue their policy of harassment and de-stabilization of Syria.

On the matter of regional stability, the rumors that Saudi Arabia is in negotiations to secure nuclear weapons from Pakistan is indicative of the failure of the Bush policies to create stability in the Middle East. If the rumors prove true, it will be fairly easy to trace Crown Prince Abdullah's decision to the arrogance and belligerence of the Bush policies in the region. All Abdullah would have to do to decide that he needs a deterent against the U.S. and Israel is to read PNAC's "Rebuilding America's Defenses" or the war strategy document that our DoD's Wolfowitz and Douglas Feith prepared for Israel's Benjamin Netanyahu in 1997.
