The GOP knows how to win elections. They use two weapons. Tax cuts and defense. They tricked the country by granting the rich most of the tax breaks and refusing to pay for the war with those tax cuts. That is their vulnerability. But if a dem says no tax breaks for the middleclass he's toast. And if a dem is weak on defense he's toast. Dean is both.
