I agree the issue is not and should not be a political or legal decision.

Granted that there are religious and moral overtones to the issue, the decision is MOSTLY one of circumstance - is the woman at a point in her life where she can properly raise a child? Is she underage? Has she just been raped? Was this just a one night stand where the condom broke, and she'd rather not have a baby just out of school and looking for a job?

Trust me, NO woman prefers having some stranger pry open her legs and grate her deep inside to taking birth control pills. Abortion as a form of birth control, even if the government shouts it from mountain tops as the best thing since sliced bread, is NOT something women would follow.

It is a last resort. And depends, to a great degree, on whether or not the woman can afford (not just financially but also emotionally) to have a child at that point in her life.
