The normal conception of dragons is that they are very large physical meat eating creatures, usually ones that fly and/or breathe fire. Such creatures would create a noticeable impact on the world around them that would be unlikely to be missed now that people cover most of the globe and even backwater or uninhabited areas are studied. If you want to call some small reptile a dragon, well there might be some small, rare, and vaguely dragon like reptile that you could call a dragon if you wanted to, and there are also Komodo dragons, but that's not what most people would mean by the word "dragon". Of course even despite this evidence there could be large flying fire breathing predators on earth, I didn't say the evidence is conclusive, but there is evidence.
