Had he gone to Berkeley, I might buy it!

I thought about this approach earlier this year, when John and I were going round and round. The best way to handle this, IMO, is to realize it is a "Liberal Arts" problem, and really only bad in the Social Science departments. Especially the Minority and Gender study sub sections of it. Who cares what an English Teacher thinks as long as he is good at teaching English. Yes, I know you will still have them "Deconstructing" things, but that is a fad that will pass.

Too many students use these minority and gender majors as a way to "gut" through school. Then they wonder why no one wants to hire them. The first thing the Pols in each state need to realize is that they are subsidizing all College Students. So they have a right to control what is taught. By this I mean they have a right to say, "We need more Engineers and Science types, and less Social Science types." This happens to be true. That is a nationwide problem.

Then the legislators could force the Universities to get out of these minority and Gender majors. And to drastically cut back on funding people going into Social Science as a Major. If you only even do the latter, the Administrators would cut these Majors. They know they are worthless. They go along because it is PC to do so, and they get the funding to do it.

But Politicians are scared to death to take on the Colleges in their state. They feel inferior to the Academic types, and don't want to push it.
