Well I actually play a "few" funds "from time to time"..mostly in my
IRA..right now I have HFCGX "BUT" it's hedged off with an almost
equal amount of BRPIX ( an S&P bear fund ) so for the most part
it's like cash, except that I see the Midcap stocks of HFCGX
out performing the S&P even if the market falls.
---
Earlier this year as I sold off stocks I played in/out of
RSIFX on dips with good luck.
I guess each person needs to find their own niche..
my stock picking is piss poor..while I did good
buying stocks when the VIX was real high so did any body
else who bought then.( I had only one loser but it was
substantial and would have been worse had I not sold
covered calls on it )
---
Another problem I have is my age & health , I need to
stay with safer stuff and think about how the wife
can get to the money if I go down.
Bonds are easy for her to understand but she has an
aversion to trading stocks, however she might be able
to handle a mutual fund or two.
( but not the high beta high risk ones I like to play )
Taht's another reason I got into HFCGX..over time
it's got a good record even in down markets.
I'll close the hedge ( short fund ) if we get a good pull back.

PS there is something about this sell off that's not adding up,
I watch the tape more than charts, and I think I see BIG money
running out of the market via the Volume on the most liquid
stocks, while J6P seems to be very bullish and is supporting
the Index via the less liquid ( bargain type ) but speculative stocks..
It will be a surprise to me if the smaller traders ( who are most
numerous) can actually over power the BIG money,,
I don't rule it out but won't bet on it.
