Actually, there is a long, documented history of the selling of pardons by American Presidents... stretching back into our history.

And, after rules were put in place criminalizing the straight-out sale of pardons. then there is a long documented history of Presidents skirting the edges of that law... or coming right up into the grey border between criminality and legality.

Since no charges have been brought, and having no inside information on the particulars of this latest case, I can only assume that it falls directly into the previously mentioned 'grey area'... that so many previous Presidents have trod before.
