a few weeks ago Juniper and Lucent announced a standards initiative (called infrenet or something) which as best I can tell puts an app layer on top of IOS to enable application support across these carrier networks (and charge for services, I suppose). It seems to me that the broadband companies are going to have the same opportunity to scale up to the business side of their business just like Microsoft was able to do when they went to windows. Thats the real reason I am so high on broadband, I don't think they have exploited themselves as an app platform yet, just take all the logic out of PC based platforms and lay it down on the internet seems like the right strategy to me... all the digital rights management, security etc. probably needs to sit on the network to work.
