"The middle ground I mention is not to compromise on respecting the Bill of Rights. I heartily endorse respect for the Bill of Rights. The middle ground is showing courtesy and restraint so as not to compromise the freedom of religion of others while we pursue our own. Doing less is, at best, rude and at worst, unconstitutional."

If taken to the limit the world you describe is chaos. YOu just about can not find anything written, that does not irritate or offend someone.

For many years the majority ruled that "coloreds" were second class citizens. That was wrong then and you will not find very many people that disagree with affording them the same rights that us white folks have. Racism is un-American.

Women were denied the right to vote and that was corrected. They were denied the rights that were granted by the constitution to all citizens.

We do not deny any one of any faith or of no faith to practice their religion or to ignore religion. That is their right and you do not see people down at the local Baptist Church lining up the non believers and herding them into church on Sunday. No one is forced or denied.

The pendulum swung to far when the efforts to equalize rights for all became a quota or guarantee. Because the government in their efforts began to deny equal opportunity to one group of people in preference of another.

I think Christians were too complacent for too long and now you are seeing us push back, because the vocal few are seeking to enforce their view of morality and acceptability on the majority. We are seeking to find politicians that share our values to ensure that they are not undermined by the "If it feels good, I ought to be able to do it" crowd.

<<<<Exactly, which is why you can't make little kids make an oath to a deity that is not theirs>>>>

Ummm, I don't know of any jurisdiction that does require that. They are allowed to remain silent during recitation of the pledge.

If you know of any place where kids are required to do that please do inform us.
