Brendan Watt, I've done similar with some of those stocks.

I too added to VLO recently and also to LH.

Still holding EFX and JNJ.

I'm considering adding to my small MRK position on Monday. (I have KFT on my watch list, and I may take a small amt. Monday too.)

I have trouble understanding the RBOCs business case, and I always seem to get scared away from starting a position. I've held a very small exploratory position in VZ though; I might re-look at that for a possible add.

As regards REITs, I'm still holding my shares.

SXT still attracts - p/sales, p/book, p/earnings. I'll add a little bit more here to my few shares.

I'll add a few more shares of SXT here.

Although the stock is trading at its historical low p/e level, SXT earnings have fluctuated over the years (although up on average). So a down earnings year could send stock price lower while still keeping the p/e within historical ranges.

I'll close out shares of SLR held in a taxable account since bubble years. My reason: to take tax losses to offset gains elsewhere.

It has been very costly to sell stocks in this market. So many stocks have continued to move higher on investors after they have taken profits in their positions. Opportunity losses might not be real losses, but as dollars foregone, they hurt.

Brendan Watt, nice going on UNH! Looks like you bought right and you had the patience to sit on the thing. About a 7 bagger in 7 years. Sweet. (I've looked at UNH occasionally since your recent post, but have not made a decision yet.)

Oil Stocks:

Current issue of Barron's has an interview with Art Smith of John S. Herold Inc.
Stocks he likes are:

On his avoid or sell list:

finance.yahoo.com

I'm guessing all these stocks will do okay if oil prices continue upward. Correct or not, this simplistic view makes it easier for me to diversify among the various companies. (I'm not looking to select the best to get optimum performance gains. Okay is good enough for me.)

So far this week, I've sold a little PTR, I started a position in TNT, and I bought today a very little COP. Would've been nice had I bought when it was mentioned here, but I did not.
