Is that so? JJ, would you kindly point out the source of this data... I am not questioning it (yet), just would like to be able to evaluate it.

I think that the main reason for the epidemic of obesity is that it is very difficult to "Just Say No" to tasty, abundant and cheap food. I don't think it has very much to do with failings of the (very imperfect) American health care system. Or with any possible cultural, intellectual or genetic failings of Americans in general.

Just anecdotally - while traveling in Europe, I haven't noticed that people's girds would be all that dramatically thinner.
