No question that the BUSH administration attempted to deliberately mislead the American public so as to establish a presence in the Mideast. As the Islamic community is quite clear in pointing out, the US interests are in protecting Israel. The Neo-cons, lead by Jewish leaders including Wolfowitz, have developed the invasion of IRAQ plan as the means for the US to control the region and invade Syria, IRAN when necessary.
