I know that the missionaries have seen the light. My point was that I wish Bush would. Here's the first source I found that explains what I was referring to.

President Bush's Decision to Stop U.S. Aid to International Family Organizations that Provide Abortion is a Dangerous and Risky Policy

January 30, 2001

One of President George W. Bush's first actions in office was to stop United States foreign assistance from being sent to international family planning organizations that provide information about abortions. I believe this policy is ill advised and dangerous.

The fact that is no U.S. international family planning assistance has ever gone to fund overseas abortions. U.S. foreign assistance has gone for family planning counseling which may include information about abortions as part of an overall program to provide information on women’s health and family planning.

Much of this funding is provided to women who live in poverty stricken countries where health care services and information are extremely meager. Under the best conditions having children can be risky to a woman’s health. In the unsanitary and disease riddled environments confronted by women in many parts of the world, this risk is greatly magnified. It is their human right that they should know the options to protect not only their health, but also their lives. I wonder if President Bush would like a doctor to withhold information that could save the life of someone he loved?

I would hope that President Bush would provide the same opportunity to people to know their health care choices abroad as Americans have at home. Withholding such information and risking someone's life unnecessarily is an inhuman act.
