Yea, just don't want to find out the hard way. Every Dem candidate has to be examined through a lens that focuses on the 2004 election with Bush.

Right now I see Dean as too left to gather the imagination of the center. As you know the election is always decided by the middle or the so called swing vote. I'm not sure that Dean can articulate his message to the middle. A lot of that depends on how the war in Iraq is going, and how Dean presents himself. I like Dean's message, but the pragmatist in me says the Kerry has a better chance against Bush.

Also Bush controls the back drop to the election. He could widen the war on terror just before the election in an effort to terrorize the swing voters in this country. Amazing how one will vote out of fear.

There is the possibility of a strong third party taking out the middle, like Perot did, leaving the Left VS Right to battle it out on turnout. I don't see that developing in 2004.
