Bill CLinton is smart. He pushed Clark in to stop Dean, and he just gave a big dinner for Jean Shaheen in New Hampshire last night calling her the greatest thing since sliced bread. Shaheen is the ex-governor and the most popular politician in NH. She ran the victorious NH primaries for Hart and Carter, and she's Kerry's #1 gal now. Kerry and Clark are united through Clinton. Gore, Lieberman, Edwards, Graham and Gephardt are also in accord. Clinton knows Dean is a gift to Karl Rove and cannot beat Bush. Since Edwards failed to catch on, Clinton has put his power behind Clark and Kerry. Same with guys like Biden. The DNC is pretty much still controlled by Clinton-Gore with second in commands Biden and Feinstein. Together with others in the party they largely control the 37% of Super Delegates necessary for anyone but a runaway winner to get the nomination. You won't hear them criticizing Dean directly, but if Dean doesn't fade you will see a fight. The story about Kerry and Gephardt joining forces to go after Dean is only the tip of the iceberg. Dean must be stopped or Bush is in. That's why Bushies say nice things about Dean and attack me, Kerry and Clark constantly. The DNC powers are very concerned we might nominate another Dukakis little liberal guy in a sweater type like Dean and lose big-time. Clinton has one rule, he wants a powerful southerner on the ticket, if not at the top, then as a strong veep, and he does not want an anti-war liberal. The candidate has to be macho-strong enough to take military voters away from Bush. Preferably Silver Star winners only. This is post 9-11 2004. Back in 1992 it was different. Nowadays, nomatter how sleazy and awful Iraq gets, you still have to have a candidate tough and experienced on defense to beat the Bush machine.
