<In Iraq, it is a matter of working with the 90%+ of the population who agree with our goals - set up a democratic Iraq and leave>

If Iraqis are allowed democracy (and sovereignty is a pre-requisite for this), they will choose a government that is:
1) nationalist
2) anti-Zionist
3) either semi-Islamist, or totally fundamentalist.
4) won't allow the economy to be sold off to foreigners
5) against longterm U.S. military presence

This is not all all what the Israeli and U.S. government want. They want a Chalabi, someone who will be pro-Israel, allow permanent U.S. military presence (to "exert influence on the neighborhood"), and allow free reign for U.S. multinational corporations.

This is the essential hypocricy: we say we want democracy, but we also try our hardest to dictate the result.
