We helped Afghans to kick out the Soviets. Unfortunately, the process of doing so helped foster the skills of the current international "Army of Jihad" - and also, the crazy sadistic Talibs managed to take power.

It is better to have a fair, democratic, and nationalistic regime that is stable and we can deal fairly with than to have a puppet regime that gives us whatever we want now at the cost of instable future.

Buffet once said, "It is better to buy a great business at a fair price than to buy a fair business at a great price."

What can I say, ST... It's hard to argue with the Oracle of Omaha... g/ng. He is right - and so are you here. Bureaucrats... Can't live with them, can't live without them... The interesting thing about this recent "leaked" Rumsfield memo is that it is so iconoclastic, that it openly challenges established structures and procedures. Good thing we live in a society where such things are at least possible.

Maybe in a small way these discussions will eventually lead to some good.
