re: "In my more than 10 years of following AMD/INTC, this is pretty much unprecedented for AMD."

I lost my quick link to Intel's pricelist... but if they didn't change prices on Xeons then it would seem natural that there would be no change in Opteron pricing.

The same may be appropriate for the FX51 and P4EE. Would Intel lower the price of a yet to be released product?

AMD's keeping the Athlon64 unchanged, however, is very interesting. I hope it is more that demand is still high relative to an improving availability rather than simply still limited availability.

re: "Of course, the real proof would be if the "real" pricing on pricewatch also reflects this in the next few weeks."

Yes. However, since Ruiz has been CEO the price differential between list and PW narrowed significantly. I tracked this for perhaps a year but moved on to other number games. It would be interesting if I had continued since it seems Intel is once again heading to a point where it is not positioning a product in the high price 'categories' for the desktop just as AMD has product in those categories. I can dig up the graphs if you are interested on the historical data to show what I mean by price categories.
