Taken as a group, Democrats and liberals have a much better service record than the GOP in general. Even worse is any comparison to the Chickenhawk neocons. It isn't that some of them didn't serve, it's just that it's consistently the loudest and most bloodthirsty are the least likely to have served in any public service capacity. Bush is the most bizarre and shameful, being the first President to appear in military uniform in modern times, especially after cowardly history and craven "Bring 'em on!" proclamations, causing ongoing deaths of Americans for his own personal political advantage. Voters clearly understand that using the military as a political prop is craven at best and criminal in this case. Dean began his professional life as a doctor, dealing with life and death decisions diametrically opposed to Bush's attempt to use the military. For my money, I rather have a sober civilian adult in office than a military-oriented opportunist. "Liberals" are only seen as weak by GOP strategists and the idea sold by Roger Ailes. These ideas aren't selling anymore, even tho' they appear on the media. You're making the same mistake the focus group handlers for Kerry and Lieberman are making. The American people don't buy it. The only way the argument for more military force gets any play is with more terrorism. And the only problem with that is that after the emergency passes, Bush will get greater scrutiny and greater blame for his priorities. The only way he can win with the current skepticism about a massive terror attack here or elsewhere, is if the attack is so large that we enter into full martial law, or elections are suspended for another reason (i.e., 'dirty bomb' of Washington, anthrax attack on Washington, etc.). The plans are all in place for such a contingency.
