That's the one thing politicians of all stripes get wrong, on all sides of the aisle. The massive productivity of the American economy in particular and the world economy in general can be led towards its inevitable logrithmic growth path under the guidance of an open gov't that keeps the playing field level and transparent, without extorting growth through fear of death, terrorism and disease. Instead, we have a kleptocracy with elites that like secret control. Americans first of all need to get out from under the military-industrial's secret war against Americans, aimed at their wallets, using things like Rumsfeld's recent $2 TRILLION Pentagon theft announcement as just "missing" to fool people, along with Neocon terrorist activities. Secondly, full transparency means seeing every public dollar on every public program and the ownership of every public official on a website similar to the Agriculture website that discloses the $180 Billion in graft given to agribusiness ewg.org If the rest of gov't were given this treatment, the entire gov't and tax system would change practically overnight, as the rats began to be exposed in the trillions of graft, rather than just $180 billion. The system will heal itself give the full and open facts in detail and in realtime. It is so bad now, however, that any accountability blows the cover of hundreds of billions of dollars in profiteering. So, it'll take scandal, I'm afraid. Bottom line, upon closer inspection, gov't appears to be 50% graft, and could be 1/2 the cost and still provide all of the safety net social programs and current military protection, along with massively increased prosperity for the world in general.
