I want US troops on the Syrian and Iranian borders (and Saudi Arabia). That's where they belong and can be most effective.

Yes, I think so. Dr. Assad would surely take notice. Such positioning of our troops would serve as a good antipsychotic for House of Saud - to help them control their persistent nuclear delusions.

Our troops would be less accessible to terrorists - and still, they would be well positioned to give overwhelming "surgical" support to Iraqi military and law enforcement - whenever they would need it.

This way the US military would be used less as street cops - and more as a presence capable of assuring strategic leverage.
